This collection contains 23 letters from two soliders to Carole Nelson (now Carole Nelson-Meyers) during the Vietnam War. A majority of the collection was written by Larry Waggoner, United States Marine Corps, the rest by Paul Sweet, United States Navy.
Larry Waggoner was a radioman in the 3rd Recon Force. In one of Larry's letters, dated 18 July 1968, he described how there's a bounty on his head, along with his fellow soldiers. The North Vietnamese Army offered a $50 reward for any member of the 3rd Recon Force brought in dead or alive. The donor of the collection states that he was in the battle of Quang Tri, Da Nang, Cua Viet, Khe Sanh, and Dong Ha.
Paul Sweet was a sailor who worked on the USS Canopus (AS-34), a submarine tender that supplies and supports submarines.
