Biography/Administrative History
William Franklin Mendenhall was born January 15, 1914 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
He worked at the United States Naval Weapons Station in Seal Beach, California. He
was a councilman for the city of Signal Hill, California, for nine years and also
served as mayor of Signal Hill from April 1963 to April 1964 and again from November
1972 to April 1973.
Scope and Content of Collection
The collection consists of correspondence, documents, photographs and published
materials related to the life, professional activities and interests of William F.
Mendenhall. Most of the materials in the collection are published materials,
including newspaper articles, numerous brochures, reports and ephemera. Portions of
the collection relate to his involvement with the governance of the city of Signal
Hill, California, and various other cities, utilities and organizations in Southern
California.
