    Immediate Source of Acquisition

    The Louise Taber family papers were gifted to The Bancroft Library by Ruth McLean Cuneo, via her daughter Doris Maslach, on July 24, 1995.

    Biographical / Historical

    Louise Taber was born in 1884 in Oakland to Isaiah West and Annie Taber. Beginning in 1915, Louise Taber worked for the Examiner and, later, the Chronicle, writing sketches of early San Francisco. In the mid-1920s, she began a series of radio programs, including "California Memories" and "Gold Rush Days. " She died in 1946.

    Content Description

    Principally materials relating to Louise Taber including transcripts of her radio broadcasts, correspondence and scrapbooks regarding opera, theater and her career in radio and as an author of San Francisco histories. Also contains diaries (1859, 1885) and other papers of her father, I.W. Taber, as well as of her uncle, C.A.M. Taber, a geologist.
