Abstract: Frank A. Irvin was a First Lieutenant in the 7th Iowa Infantry during the US Civil War. He was assigned to the US Signal Corps, and served as Aide-de-Camp to General Franklin's Staff. He participated in the Vicksburg (May 19-July 4, 1863) and Red River (March 10-May 28, 1864) campaigns. The collection consists of military dispatch books and individual dispatches from 1862-1864, personal military records and orders from 1862-1865, and testimonials dated 1870-1915.

The Frank A. Irvin Papers consists of military dispatch books and individual dispatches from 1862-1864, personal military records and orders from 1862-1865, and testimonials dated 1870-1915. It includes dispatches sent during the Vicksburg campaign to and from General Ulysses S. Grant, General John Alexander McClernand, General Cadwallader C. Washburn, and Admiral David Dixon Porter, and dispatches sent during the Red River Campaign to and from General Nathaniel P. Banks, and General Franklin.
