    Biographical / Historical

    Clifton Snider was born in Duluth, Minnesota on March 3, 1947. He earned his B.A. and M.A. at California State University Long Beach and earned his Ph.D at the University of New Mexico. He began his career as a poet and literary critic while working on his Ph.D. Since then he has written 11 poetry collections and four novels. He has also written a book on literary criticism, The Stuff That Dreams Are Made On: A Jungian Interpretation of Literature. He previously taught at California State University Long Beach where he created the first college course on gays and lesbians in literature. He retired from teaching in 2009 and devotes his time to writing and activism. In 2018, he lives in Long Beach, California with his partner and three cats.

    Scope and Contents

    The Clifton Snider papers mostly consists of Snider's manuscripts, proofs, and letters regarding his poetry collections and novels. The collection materials range from his earliest work, such as Jesse Come Back, to his lastest works, such as The Beatle Bump. The collection also consists of material from his research on literary criticism including articles, manuscripts, and research notes and materials from his teaching career.

    Separated Materials

    The two folders have been separated from the collection due to mold damage. The folders are "Early Manuscript of The Beatle Bump" and "Early Manuscript of The Beatle Bump (c. 1984) with commentary from Robert Peters."
