Lerner also served as Co-chair of the Gay Freedom Day celebration in 1978. He died in Tokyo, Japan from AIDS complications in 1995.

Scope and Content of Collection

Collection contains materials relating to the life and work of Larry Berner, an openly gay school teacher in Healdsburg, California who was a leader in the fight against the Briggs Initiative in 1978. Lerner also served as Co-chair of the Gay Freedom Day celebration in 1978. He died in Tokyo, Japan from AIDS complications in 1995. Materials in this collection include a scrapbook of articles and clippings relating to Berner’s efforts as a political activist, a photograph of Berner, T-shirt reading “Ask a Healdsburg Parent - No on 6”, and a 1978 Gay Freedom Day button.
