Background
The California Institute for Cancer Research (CICR) at the University of California, Los Angeles Medical Center was founded
in 1945 to support cancer research, treatment, and prevention. As a private, separately incorporated support group at UCLA,
the CICR awarded 12 to 15 grants of between $10,000 and $20,000 annually to UCLA cancer researchers. Grants supported work
done at the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center. As of April 2014, the CICR continues to offer occasional extramural funding
opportunities to researchers.
