Description
The Department of Music Concert Programs and Flyers collection (1966-2016) praimarily contains programs and flyers promoting
concerts and events from the Department of Music at California State University, Dominguez Hills.
Background
Music as a major was added to the college catalogue in fall 1966 [1]. Since then, several professors have played a critical
role in expanding the music department's presence. Marshall Bialosky led the Dominguez Chorale and gave free concerts in what
was the Little Theatre and later the Playbox Theatre in the early 1970s along with Frances Steiner who led the Dominguez Chamber
Orchestra [2]. Dr. Steiner also took over the Carson Symphony in 1976 and would often bring the two orchestras together to
perform especially when celebrating the City of Carson's birthday each February [3].
