"Stewart (University of Edinburgh, D.Sc. 1887; M.B. 1889; M.D. 1891; Cambridge, D.P.H. 1890) taught physiology at Harvard
from 1893 to 1894 and at Western Reserve University School of Medicine from 1894 to 1930, with the exception of four years
at the University of Chicago. His major contribution was in transmitting modern methods of teaching and research in physiology
to American medical education. He wrote the Manual of Physiology (1895) which became the standard text for students. After
1907 he served as director of the H. K. Cushing Laboratory and was professor of experimental medicine."--Cf. G.N. Stewart

Stewart's papers consist of notes, laboratory data and analyses, texts, and drawings pertaining to his research in vagotomy
and blood circulation. All are handwritten, except as otherwise indicated. Quoted titles are caption or docketed titles transcribed
from the documents.
