This is a typed copy of a manuscript entitled "Notes of an Interview With Hon. Thomas Gates by E.J. Trippel." The document is undated but the content within refers to a prison riot known as the Gates Riot which occurred on October 27, 1887 at the Yuma Territorial Prison in Arizona. Thomas Gates was born in Canada on 1833, 8 Jan., to Hiram Gates and Sarah Maria Sayles. He later married Maria Emilie Prudhomme. He passed away on 1896, 13 March, in Yuma Territorial, Yuma, Yuma, Arizona Territory.
