Abstract: This collection contains materials collected by Patrick McGonigle, who was crowned Emperor XV of the Imperial Court of San
Francisco in 1987. McGonigle moved to San Francisco in 1977 and was active in a number of organizations including the Castro
Lions Club, the Coits, political groups formed to defeat Propositions 6 and 64, and the Imperial Court.

Scope and Content of Collection
This collection contains materials collected by Patrick McGonigle, who was crowned Emperor XV of the Imperial Court of San
Francisco in 1987. McGonigle moved to San Francisco in 1977 and was active in a number of organizations including the Castro
Lions Club, the Coits, political groups formed to defeat Propositions 6 and 64, and the Imperial Court. His reign was notable
for sponsoring many fundraising events to benefit community organizations. McGonigle was employed by the Superior Court of
San Francisco and lived with his domestic partner of 16 years, Richard Carle, who had also been an emperor. McGonigle died
of a heart attack in 1993. The bulk of the collection consists of buttons. These have not been sorted. There is also a scrapbook
