Scope and Content of Collection

Box 1 includes files on a 1993 Bay Point Miwok Symposium; Dean McLeod’s typewritten manuscripts on Bay Point history; copies of county records from the 1870s regarding a lawsuit over a proposal to build a road through Bay Point so Diablo Valley wheat farmers could get their wheat to the waterfront; reports and newspaper clippings on a 1986 proposal by the Navy to build a warehouse on the closed portion of the Concord Naval Weapons Station (the proposal failed due to local opposition); and newspaper clippings on the town’s name change from West Pittsburg to Bay Point in 1993. Box 2 contains loose materials including books and documents on San Francisco Bay ecology from the 1980s to the early 2000s, a March 1980 issue of California Geology magazine, a newspaper photograph and article on the Bay Point Volunteer Fire Department from 1945, color negatives of singer Pearl Bailey dated August 18, 1990, documents on the environmental issues and clean-up of the Concord Naval Weapons Station from 2002, and a biographical report on Alexander McNair, the first governor of Missouri (1820-1824). The negatives of Pearl Bailey are dated the day after she died; they may have been from a photograph run in a newspaper obituary of her. Box 3 contains research notes on Wm R Sharkey, Bertha & James Andrews, Samuel Bacon, Charles Murray & Edith Vlach, Thomas Finley, and Seranus Clinton Hastings.
