Abstract: The Flood Insurance Rate Map Collection contains a series of maps highlighting areas of potential flood risk throughout Los
Angeles County. The maps were produced by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as part of the National Flood Insurance
Program series. Maps from the collection include both incorporated and unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County, emphasizing
areas of the County that contain creeks, channels, reservoirs, and other permanent or seasonal waterways. The bulk of the
collection dates from the 1980s to the 1990s, with some maps from the 1970s and 2000s. Flood insurance maps also include municipal
details like roads and highways.

Scope and Content of Collection
The Flood Insurance Rate Map Collection includes more than 300 maps collected and managed by the Oviatt Map Collection to
support research within the Oviatt Library. Maps detail locations from the City and County of Los Angeles, featuring both
incorporated and unincorporated areas. Maps are folded to approximately 23 x 10 cm and generally include panel titles, indexes,
and map keys. Scales vary.
