Abstract: Edward Palmer (1829-1911) was born in Norfolkshire, England, but became known for his field work in the United States as a
field naturalist, ethnobotony, and archaeology of the Southwest and Mexico. This collection of papers includes handwritten
manuscripts, research notes, and newspaper clippings from 1869-1910.

Edward Palmer (1829-1911) was born in Norfolkshire, England, but became known for his field work in the United States. A field
naturalist primarily in ethnobotany, Palmer is noted also for real contributions in ethnological and archaeological materials
collected in the Southwest United States and Mexico beginning in 1865.
This collection of papers includes handwritten notes made by Edward Palmer on such topics as Tohono O'odham Indians of Arizona,
Fort Defiance, plants used by Native Americans, Apaches of Arizona, a military excursion from Ft. Leavenworth to San Diego,
exploration of the Colorado River, and cliff dwellers. Materials are dated from 1869-1910 and include handwritten manuscripts
and clippings from newspapers and other publications. Some clippings have illustrations.
