Scope and Contents

This collection contains 19 letters written to Captain Louis J. Saffores, United States Marine Corps and his wife Marge from enlisted men who had served under his command, during the Second World War. This collection also contains two photographs, a small Japanese flag and various postcards and ephemera.
Of particular interest is an American propaganda surrender leaflet, written in Japanese and English, dropped over Burma.
