    Scope and Content

    The collection consists of positive microfilm copies of the proceedings of California land cases brought before the United States District Court between 1852-1862 with transcripts of records from the United States Land Commission, where the claims had originally been presented.
    These documents are now public records. The originals are held in records of the General Land Office, National Archives (RG 49), and the microfilm originals are kept at the Bancroft Library in Berkeley, California.
    The cases are listed in numerical order by Southern and by Northern District Court case numbers and are cross indexed with the Commission case number provided in the appendix to Ogden Hoffman. Reports of land cases determined in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California : June term, 1853 to June term, 1858, inclusive (San Francisco : N. Hubert, 1862)  Call number: 14752
