Description
The 23 posters in this collection are official hand screen printed Monterey Jazz Festival Posters created by Earl Newman and purchased at the festival respective to each poster year. The poster titles were sourced from the Earl Newman Prints company in 2021. There are color variations in the paper used for the posters, so one may find the same print on different color paper in other collections. For some years several print designs were made, not every print design for the years in this collection is present.
Background
J. Roger Hamilton was a regular attendee at Monterey Jazz Festival, sitting with his family annually in the center aisle, row 8 every year. During the first two days of the festival he would purchase the Earl Newman printed posters to ensure he had one for that year. The posters in this collection were on display at his home for many years before donation to the Stanford Libraries.
