Abstract: The Sacramento chapter of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs was founded in 1919 and its purpose
was to promote and protect the interests of local professional women in the business and industrial fields. The club records
are comprised of administrative records, scrapbooks, artifacts, historical information, and convention materials that document
the activities of the Sacramento Business and Professional Women's Club from 1919 through 1958.

Historical Note
The Sacramento chapter of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs was founded in 1919 which was
also the same year that the National Federation was founded. In 1924, the Sacramento Business and Professional Women's Club
became part of the Northern District of California. The Northern District went as far south as Sacramento and as far north
as Eureka. The purpose of the Sacramento Business and Professional Women's Club was to promote and protect the interests of
local professional women in the business and industrial fields. The club advocated for legislative change concerning issues
that affected working women such as the Equal Rights Amendment of 1937 and the Women's Pay Act of 1947. The club held meetings
each month to plan events, discuss women's issues, and to find ways to better the community and the nation.
Scope and Content Note
The club records are comprised of administrative records, scrapbooks, club histories, printed materials, and convention records
that document the activities of the Sacramento Business and Professional Women's Club from 1919 through 1958. The administration
records include articles and by-laws of the club, membership applications from 1922 through 1924, membership rosters from
1934 through 1956, and hardbound as well as loose meeting minutes from 1919 through 1942. Scrapbooks include newspaper articles
about the club and its members, club events, and photographs. The general records include historical information about the
Sacramento Business and Professional Women's Club as well as a hanging placard that the club used for its meeting room and
various printed materials. Convention records include photographs, printed materials, and typescript documenting several national
club conventions from 1935 through 1941.
