Description
DVDs of the television interview show Literary Gumbo (2010-2018) hosted by Fred Klein of Santa Barbara, California, as well as other materials, including show notes (with clippings) prepared by Klein, and material related to Klein's time as the vice president of marketing at Bantam Books.
Background
Fred Merton Klein, born May 27, 1923 in Syracuse, New York, attended the University of Michigan, where he graduated in 1948. After working as a fundraiser for the North Shore Hospital in Manhasset, New York, Klein joined Bantam Books, where he worked as the vice president of marketing, and as the executive vice president and editor. Retiring in 1990 after 30 years at Bantam, Klein moved to Santa Barbara, California, where he served as Ombudsman of the Santa Barbara Writers Conference. In the 1990s, Klein joined the Santa Barbara News Press as a book reviewer, and was one of the creators of the Santa Barbara Book and Author Festival. Klein was host of the weekly TV interview show Literary Gumbo from 2010-2018, interviewing over 220 authors from the Santa Barbara area.
