    Biographical/Historical note

    Luis Barragan was born in 1902 in Guadaljara. Barragan studied engineering at university but was never formally trained as an architect. He was the principal of his own firm in Mexico City, producing work only in Mexico. Luis Barragan died in 1988. Over the course of his career, he is most well-known for his house in Mexico City and the exclusive housing development called Jardines del Pedregal in the lava fields of El Pedregal de San Angel.

    Photographs of Luis Barragan's buildings and an exhibition brochure are accompanied by a letter from Barragan to Paul Mills at the Santa Barbara Art Museum, 1972.
