Historical Background
Carol Pletcher received her Ph.D. in biochemistry from the College of Biological Sciences at the University of Minnesota (1979).
She joined Cargill in 1983 as a senior scientist on the central research staff, and became Cargill's Innovation Officer. Pletcher
is president of Pletcher Consulting.
In 1981, Pletcher was one of 16 female American scientists invited to visit China under the auspices of the All-China Women's
Federation. The tour group met with professional Chinese women, were introduced to officials of the People's Republic who
formulated science and technology policy, and travelled to Shanghai, Wuxi, Nanjing, Sian, and Beijing.
