    Scope and Content of Collection

The album of 82 albumen prints on 75 pages includes cityscapes and urban views, landscapes, formal and informal portraits, and local vegetation. Several photographs are attributed to Jean Prod'hom; the other photographers are unidentifed.
The album is bound in black morocco. The title stamped on the front cover in Arabic reads: A. B. A., 1867. The inside front cover is stamped: R. Ackermann, London, indicating it was likely bound and sold by Rudolph Ackermann, Junior (-1906), the London publisher, print seller, stationer, and manufacturer of watercolor paints and other art supplies.
The pages are numbered in pencil on the recto side only, and 30 photographs are captioned in pencil in English or French; some are dated 1867 or 1868; these captions have been used as the photograph titles; the remainder of the titles were devised by the cataloger.

    Biographical/Historical Note

The compiler of the album is unidentified. Several photographs are attributed to Jean Prod'hom, who ran a studio in Bône, Algeria, from the 1860s through the 1890s.
