Description
Consists of the records of the Coalition of University Employees (CUE) and the predecessor unions of AFSCME Locals 1695 and 3211. Of special interest is carton 37 which contains materials related to the Third World Liberation Front Strike and the scrapbook found in oversize box 2 which discusses the relation of CUE to the struggle for People's Park.
Background
The Coalition of University Employees (CUE) represents clerical employees within the University of California sytem. Formerly affiliated with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) initially as Local 1695, then rechartered as Local 3211 in 1983, in 1995, concerned about AFSCME's neglect of the clerical bargaining unit, Judy Shattuck helped found CUE, and helped lead the effort to win an election to replace AFSCME.
