Scope and Content of Collection
The S. S. Yukon, Alaska Steamship Company Menu Collection consists of 16 dinner menus, one Alaska Steamship Company, Alaska
Line route map, and one Alaska Line envelope. This collection belonged to Ann and George Gabriel, the aunt and uncle of donor
Jane Kotz. Ann Gabriel was a cook for the military on Kodiak Island during World War II. Her husband, George, served as
a cook on ships that transported troops to and from the island. The menus are breakfast, lunch and dinner menus from the
S. S. Yukon, one of the ships of the Alaska Steamship Company line. The captain of the Yukon was C. A. Glasscock, Lieut.
Commander, U.S.N.R. The menus are all from the year 1941. Several of the menus have cover-art reproductions of dry-point
engravings by Eustace Paul Ziegler. One contains photographs of the Alaska Line fleet. Eight contain reproductions of portraits
of dogs by the Alaskan artist Josephine Crumrine.
