Abstract: Kathleen (Kathi) Smith is a disability and LGBT rights activist. Notes, ephemera, and an original copy of a 1979 November 29 speech by Cleve Jones document Smith’s activities with the Democratic Party in California, including on behalf of Harry Britt’s campaign for San Francisco Supervisor. Newspaper clippings, correspondence, notes, and the results of a FOIA request to the Department of the Treasury document Smith’s role in pursuing a 1979 complaint against the City of San Francisco for violating Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Correspondence, tenants rights literature, and government agency records document Smith’s experience as a tenant in multiple buildings, her relationships with landlords, and efforts to research and enforce tenants rights. Also included is the Boy Scout uniform of Randy Taylor, a gay veteran of the Vietnam War.
