The records in this series contain materials related to the University College of Jewish Studies. Biography/Organization History

Historical Note: Formed from the Hebrew Teachers College in 1972, the University College of Jewish Studies was designed for students seeking an AA or BA degree in Judaic Studies, and was the undergraduate department of the University. The UCJS was open to students from other local colleges and universities as well as high school seniors who qualified. It included a Joint Program between UCLA and UJ, as well as the Lee Program in Jewish and Western Civilization. David Gordis served as Dean. In 1987, the UCJS merged into the Lee College.

Biography/Organization History

Historical Note: The Lee Program in Jewish and Western Civilization, began as a two-year unique undergraduate program where students studied the Jewish and Western cultures during the crucial periods of their development and interaction. In 1982, the Norman and Sadie Lee College was established.
