Abstract: Educator, poet, and artist Faricita Hall Wyatt (1912-1993) was born on October 29, 1912 to William M. Hall and Susie Sylindia
Pinkney Hall. Wyatt published two books of poetry The River Must Flow (1965) and By the Banks of the River (1974) and was
also an accomplished painter. The Faricita Hall Wyatt Papers include correspondence, poetry manuscripts, photographs, awards,
and guest books that document the life and career of Faricita Hall Wyatt.

Biography / Administrative History
Educator, poet, and artist Faricita Hall Wyatt (1912-1993) was born on October 29, 1912 to William M. Hall and Susie Sylindia
Pinkney Hall. She earned an A.B. degree from San Jose State College in 1935 and joined the Women’s Army Corp during World
War II where she served as a Company Commander from 1943-1946. Following the war, she was an employment officer for the State
of California, a position she held until 1959 when she served as a secretary for Congressman Jeffrey Cohelan. After earning
a teaching certificate from the University of California Berkeley in 1962, Wyatt began teaching history, literature, and creative
writing courses at Skyline High School in Oakland, California until her retirement in 1975.
Wyatt published two books of poetry The River Must Flow (1965) and By the Banks of the River (1974) and was also an accomplished
painter. She also created and published a software package, Tracing the Range of Interest and Activities Development (TRIAD),
to assist job seekers match their skills with potential employers. She was also active in numerous clubs and service organizations,
serving as chapter president of the Berkeley Bay Area Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta sorority.
Scope and Content of Collection
The Faricita Hall Wyatt Papers include correspondence, poetry manuscripts, photographs, awards, and guest books that document
the life and career of Faricita Hall Wyatt. The papers are organized into five series: biographical, artistics activities,
professional activities, education and teaching, and photographs. The personal series includes a biographical note of Faricita
Hall Wyatt, assorted correspondence, a wedding album of her marriage to Thomas Edward Wyatt, assorted legal and financial
documents, and three guest books. The art series includes examples of her poetry, inventories and photographs of her paintings,
and related correspondence. Professional activities includes awards and certificates awarded to Hall Wyatt for her professional
and civic service, brochures and correspondence related to the Tracing the Range of Interest and Activities Development (TRIAD)
software package, and surveys and newsletters related to her work on the University of California San Francisco retirees employment
program. The education and teaching series includes her personal copy of La Forte, the yearbook of San Jose State College,
her high school notebook for a fashion design course, which includes sketches of clothing designs and clothing swabs, high
school and college diplomas, and assorted committee files related to Black History Month. A majority of the photographs are
family photographs and portraits of Hall Wyatt while she served in the Women’s Army Corp.
