Scope and Content

Scrapbook documenting the speaking tour of Swami Bissessar through America assembled by the Swami's press agent (or by the Swami). The Hindu master delivered lectures on subjects such as Correct Living, Yoga Philosophy, Hindu Psychology, the attainment of wealth, and sex problems, offering private consultations to women. Bissessar began this long speaking tour in Spokane, and from there he traveled throughout the West and Midwest, including stops in Los Angeles, Berkeley, and Santa Barbara, usually talking in hotel ballrooms or women's clubs. He eventually settled for a while in Oakland, where he operated a "Psychology Institute," later renamed "Shrine of Esoteric Science."
This volume includes the hundreds of illustrated advertisements, publicity pieces, reviews, and interviews, published in newspapers. The location and date is noted for each clipping.
