    Biographical/Historical note

    The new main library at Stanford was designed by the San Francisco architectural firm of John Bakewell, Jr. and Arthur Brown, Jr.; is it now known as the Bing Wing of the Cecil H. Green Library.

    Scope and Contents note

    Collection pertains to the construction of a new main library at Stanford and includes the articles of agreement between Rudgear Merle Company and Stanford University, contract specifications for the library from plans prepared by the architectural firm of Bakewell and Brown, and some correspondence. There are specifications for carpenter work, concrete, elevator, furniture, glazing, heating, marble and tile, ornamental iron, plumbing, painting, stacks, wiring, and other work.
