Descriptive Summary
Abstract: The collection consists of reference photocopies of documents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) file on the Communist
infiltration of the motion picture industry. The Bureau file number is 100-138754. Volumes 1 through 28 are represented. The
chronological correspondence files contain internal documents in the form of letters, memorandums, and reports. Topics include
Communist influence in labor unions, Communist front organizations and activities, films of a propaganda nature, Office of
War Information (OWI) activities, House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) investigations, Conference of Studio Unions,
and the "Hollywood 10."
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is an American governmental agency belonging to the United States Department of
Justice that serves as both a federal criminal investigative organization and an internal intelligence agency. The bureau
investigated Hollywood's involvement with leftist organizations.
