    Biographical note

    George Harrison Whitney was an attorney at Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher and President of the Van Nuys Foundation. For a time, he acted as guardian to Annis Schweppe, daughter of Isaac Van Nuys and Susanna Lankershim.

    Scope and Contents

    This collection cosists primarily of information on the Van Nuys and Lankershim families, pioneers in Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley. Several documents, including deeds, provide details about the land transactions in the region. Newspapers and newspaper clippings reference attempts to save the West Temple Apartments, also known as the Rochester House, in Los Angeles. Pamplets, such as "A Daughter of the Snows," provides information on the history and development of Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley.
