Byron Kane was an American actor active in film from the 1950s to 1981. He served as Blake Edwards
production assistant on numerous television shows and was an associate producer for the PETER GUNN
series. He was active as a dramatic actor on radio, where his voice could also be heard on commercials
and voice-overs.
Collection Scope and Content Summary
The Byron Kane papers span the years circa 1938-1970 and encompass 2 linear feet. The collection
contains teleplays, radio scripts, and some miscellaneous material. Nine leather-bound volumes of scripts
for the PETER GUNN television series with writings by Tony Barrett, Blake Edwards, and others are of
interest. There are scripts for more than a dozen radio programs of the 1940s. A series of six black-and-
white reproductions of portraits by Bill Bates of silent film comedians are present. Material relating to
Kane's film acting career is not included.
