The collection of 59 audio tapes
records approximately 75 interviews conducted by art historian and critic Phyllis Tuchman
with leading artists such as Carl Andre, Anthony Caro, John Chamberlain, Dan Flavin, Philip
Glass, Michael Heizer, Donald Judd, Roy Lichtenstein, John McCracken, Joan Mitchell, Frank
Stella, Andy Warhol, La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela, among others. Also included are
annotated transcriptions of interviews with eight artists.
Background
American art historian and critic Phyllis Tuchman (b. 1947) has written monographs,
articles, published interviews and catalog essays on numerous artists, including Carl Andre,
Anthony Caro, Nancy Graves, Bryan Hunt and George Segal. In many cases, such as the
interviews with Carl Andre and Anthony Caro, these texts have become canonical, oft-cited
references for the artists.
