Scope and Contents

This series contains the manuscript portion of the collection. All papers are related to either the Levy family, Achille's Levy's business dealings, or the Bank of A. Levy. This includes correspondence, photographs, daybooks, and various banks records.

Papers and photographs 1888-1987

Scope and Contents

This box contains newspaper clippings on the bank's remodeling; records of A. Levy Co.'s profits and losses for 1923-1927; a stock certificate for J-B Carburetor Corporation, 1915; a blank checkbook and cancelled checks, 1888-1889; the Kings Booklets on New York Bank Presidents, circa 1904; Home Helps from the Fleur de Lis Rebekah Lodge, Oxnard, undated; unidentified negatives and photographic slides; photographs of bank celebrations, circa 1970-1980; logo artwork and notes, circa 1970s; miscellaneous clippings and notes; annual reports and statements, 1905-1982; scripts and notes for radio ads, 1978, 1987; audio tapes, 1986; a 1929 notice for a county-wide increase in bank service charges; a DVD labeled "Achille Levy Documents"; and a manuscript of A. Levy's personal and the bank's history, circa 1984.

Albums and books 1880-1991

Scope and Contents

This box contains the Levy family album; books on various subjects; a box of Automobile Club of Southern California maps, 1945-1951; an Index to Precincts Registers, County of Ventura, 1922; memorial book for A. Levy's funeral; Coffin's Interest Tables by John E. Coffin, 1914; a photo album of a luncheon at Hyatt Westlake Hotel, 1989; "Welcome to A. Levy" artwork; guestbook for Joseph Levy's funeral, 1955; memorial resolution for A. Levy from International Indemnity Company, 1922; California Bankers' Association publications, 1990-91; statements and resume of operations for the A and H Levy Company, 1922; and an agreement with Anselmo Silveria, 1925 November.

Additional materials include papers that were originally in ledgers. This includes the contents of Ledger 1, Ledger 92, and Ledger 64.

Box 3

Contracts, deeds, and mortgages 1870-1982

Scope and Contents

This box contains account registers, blanks checks, and promotional materials, circa 1970-1980; historical notes and contracts; broadcaster advertisements, 1975-1978; contracts for construction and furnishings for new building, October 1926; and the contents of a binder containing pamphlets, historical materials, clippings, and promotional materials, circa 1982.

Diaries, memo books, and calendars 1886-1960

Scope and Contents

This box contains Anna Levy's French grammar book, 1893; Levy's prayerbook: Prayer book for Kol Nidre and Yom Kippur, 1886; diaries and memo books, 1871-1904; account books for Camarillo, among others, 1887-1916; banking education booklets; saving books for Joseph Levy and Achille Arthur Milligan, 1909-43; a birthday book, circa 1950s; various diaries and calendars, 1918-1940.

Photographs, clippings, and prints 1926-1993

Scope and Contents

Folder contains photographs, photographic slides, and negatives of bank events and celebrations; newspaper clippings from 1933 reporting on a banking crisis, a merit award from the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce dated 1990; aerial photographs possibly of Ventura Road and Port Hueneme, undated; redevelopment plans for Oxnard that include a new bank branch, 1969; and a clipping from the Oxnard Courier, October 1926.

Box 5, Folder 2

Loose papers and account sheets 1922, 1926-1927

Scope and Contents

This folder contains loose papers and sheets from account ledgers. They were not attached to any ledger in particular. They include accounts for shipment and deliveries of beans and grains, circa 1922; correspondence with Southern Pacific Milling Company, 1926-1972; and Henry Levy's correspondence with the Hueneme Wharf and Warehouse Company and warehouses in Saticoy, Reseda, San Francisco, Sacramento, and Northern California regarding delivery of and taxes on grains and beans, 1926-1972. There is also a copy of a will for Marie Francois, dated February 19, 1925.

Mortgages, deeds, and other contracts 1912-1924

Scope and Contents

This box contains mortgages, deeds, and other contracts made with the bank with various individuals and companies in the county. They are housed in their original envelopes and are in original order from the left to right of the box.

Scope and Contents

This series includes all the ledgers in the collection many of which are either related to the Bank of A. Levy or the A. and H. Levy Company, as well as a variety of other financial records kept by Achille and Henry Levy. For brevity A and H Levy Company has been abbreviated to "AHL" and the Bank of A. Levy to "BAL." The ledgers are mostly in alphabetical order. The ledgers have either the word "Cash" or "Journal" written on their spines, and are grouped and listed accordingly. However, please note that some ledgers do not fall into either category.
