History
Instruction in home economics started in Fall 1936 on the Davis campus with a non degree two year program which was taught
by a faculty of five. In 1942, the department offered a complete undergraduate program and the bachelor of science degree
was
conferred on the first two graduates in 1946. The department became an independent unit in 1953. In 1965-1966, the department
subunits were realigned into separate new departments of: Consumer Science, Nutrition, and Applied Behavioral Sciences.
