    Abstract: Includes photographs of Mr. McElroy as an officer in World War II, with Southern Pacific's Sacramento Car Shop employees, with American Federation of Labor delegates, and with Mrs. McElroy at dinners and banquets. Also includes birth and death certificates, an honorable discharge from the U. S. Army, a certificate for the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, a letter announcing a Distinguished Service Award Certificate from the National Mediation Board.

    Biography/Administrative History

    Raymond McElroy was born on April 6, 1902 in Harrisonville, Missouri. He married his wife Gertrude in 1937 in Fresno, California. Mr. McElroy worked for the Southern Pacific Sacramento General Shops as an Assistant Shop Superintentent, Passenger Carmen and served as an officer, 2nd lieutanant in World War II with the 754th Railway Shops Battalion. After the war, he became a mediator for the National Mediation Board. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen of America for over 25 years. Mrs. McElroy belonged to its Ladies' Auxiliary. McElroy also belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, the Masons and the Shriners. He died on June 17, 1977 in West Sacramento, California.
