Biographical / Historical
C.F. Braun & Co. was started by engineer Carl F. Braun. The firm designed oil
refineries and petrochemical plants around the world. The headquarters of C.F. Braun &
Co. was located in Alhambra, California. C.F. Braun & Co. was sold to Santa Fe
International in 1980.
Carl Franklin Braun was an engineer, professor, and author. He was born in Oakland,
California in 1884. He earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Stanford University in
1907. In 1909, Braun started C.F. Braun & Co. with a few associates and $500 in
capital.
Braun was married to Winifred Hughes Gilbert. The couple had three sons. He passed away in
1954.
Scope and Contents
The Collection of C.F. Braun & Co. photographs and ephemera primarily consist of
photographs related to the company. Many of the photographs were used in printed
publications issued by the company. There are photographs of the interior and exterior of
the Braun facilities, personnel, models, and equipment. The collections also includes hardbound
publications; newsletters; negatives; and some material related to Alhambra Brown & Root
facility. It appears that some of the material belonged to Daniel B. Banks, a chemical
engineer, at C.F. Braun & Co.
There are ten exhibition boards with printouts and photographs related to different aspects
of the company.
