Manuel J. Vizcarra (b. Dec 6, 1924 – d. April 7, 2003) served as the eighth Bishop President of the Apostolic Assembly of
the Faith in Christ Jesus from 1968-1994, and the first Bishop President of the Apostolic Assembly in Mexico. The Papers of
Manuel Vizcarra, an Apostolic Archives of the Americas Collection spans from the late 1950s - 2003. The majority of the material
includes events, publications, correspondence, and departmental news and bulletins of the Apostolic Assemblies of Faith in
Christ Jesus.
Background
Manuel J. Vizcarra (b. Dec 6, 1924 – d. April 7, 2003) served as the eighth Bishop President of the Apostolic Assembly of
the Faith in Christ Jesus from 1968-1994, and the first Bishop President of the Apostolic Assembly in Mexico. He was elected
Bishop Supervisor of the Northern California District in 1967. Bishop Vizcarra also served as Secretary of Christian Education,
General Secretary, and Bishop Vice President. He worked over fifty years in service to the Apostolic Assemby in the United
States and Mexico.
Born in Mexico, Vizcarra grew up in New Mexico and Arizona, United States. He was baptized at the First Church of San José,
California in 1945. He married Martha Araujo on December 6, 1953. Bishop Vizcarra earned degrees at the Instituto Teológico
Apostólic International (ITAI) and Fuller Theological Seminary.
