Description
Armand Hammer (1898-1990) was an American petroleum executive, entrepreneur, and art collector. He ran Occidental Petroleum
from 1957 until his death, though he was well-known for his art collection, his philanthropy, and for his close ties to the
Soviet Union.
This collection consists of six professionally produced photo albums-- four of them honoring Armand Hammer on his 86th, 87th,
88th, and 91st birthdays. (Hammer's 86th birthday was celebrated in conjunction with USC's School of Music, which was celebrating
its 100th birthday. A special concert by Maestro Mstislav Rostropovich was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on May 20, 1984.)
Another album commemorates the Los Angeles Council's Seventh Annual Armand Hammer Award Luncheon held at the Century Plaza
Hotel on November 5, 1986. The sixth album depicts Dr. Hammer with various celebrities honoring former U.S. President Gerald
Ford with a "Hail to the Chief" presidential roast in 1984.
