Research material used by historians in the water rights case of the City of Los Angeles vs. City of San Fernando as well
as copies of legal documents from the court case.
Background
The city of Los Angeles brought a case against San Fernando, Burbank, Glendale and 30 other defendants over use of underground
water in September 1955 (the trial took place in 1966-1967). Historians Andrew Rolle, Iris Higbie Wilson Engstrand, John W.
Caughey, other others, did research, presented evidence, and testified in the court case on behalf of the defendants.
Restrictions
The Huntington Library does not require that researchers request permission to quote from or publish images of this material,
nor does it charge fees for such activities. The responsibility for identifying the copyright holder, if there is one, and
obtaining necessary permissions rests with the researcher.
