Background
John B. Kilroy (1922-2016), was a real-estate broker, self-made entrepreneur, and philanthropist. Kilroy was the main force
behind the Los Angeles 1976 Olympic Organizing Committee’s campaign to bring the 1976 Summer Olympic Games to Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles 1976 Olympic Organizing Committee (1964-1984) was a non-profit organization which sought to bring the 1976
Summer Olympic Games to Los Angeles. Despite numerous attempts, they lost the bid to Montreal. The committee continued to
work with other organizations, and together they successfully won the bid for Los Angeles to host the 1984 Summer Olympic
Games.
