    Abstract: In the early 1990s residents of the lower Mattole River (Humboldt County, CA) watershed created the Mattole Watershed Alliance to work on improving Mattole River conditions toward the common goal of preserving populations of wild salmonids. The collection provides information about the group's activities and the challenges that the initial goodwill and successes could not overcome. The Alliance's goals, actions, and group process are described in "The Mattole Watershed Alliance: A Case Study of Community-Based Consensus" by Brain, Meyer and Rafferty which is included in this collection.

    Acquisition Information

    The collection was donated by Dan Weaver. First batch of materials delivered by Flora Brain in Spring 2011, after she had used them for a class project. In February 2012, Mr. Weaver delivered the rest of the materials in his possession. In May 2012, Flora Brain donated a copy of a HSU class paper on behalf of herself and her two co-authors.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    In the early 1990s residents of the lower Mattole River watershed created the Mattole Watershed Alliance to work on improving Mattole River conditions toward the common goal of increasing the populations of wild salmonids. The materials in this collection provide information about the group's activities, publicity provided by local newspapers, and some notes pertaining to the challenges that the initial goodwill and successes could not overcome. The Alliance's goals, actions, and group process are described in "The Mattole Watershed Alliance: A Case Study of Community-Based Consensus" by Brain, Meyer and Rafferty which is included in this collection.
