    Scope and Contents

    Collection of art, design and photography assembled by art teacher, painter & lithographer Julian Chapman Wright (1904-1978). Born in Texas, Wright graduated from Stanford in 1925 majoring in Philosophy, gaining an advanced degree in 1927. He was a resident of Los Angeles by 1931 and taught in LA area public schools for most of his life.
    His collection includes leaves from medieval manuscripts, 18th and 19th century engravings, 19th century photograph albums (9 volumes, principally portraits), 20th century illuminated manuscripts, and a variety of miscellaneous printed items.

    Separated Materials

    Three photo albums primarily containing images from Asia have been transferred to the Asian photograph collection (MSS PHOTO 0397).
