Abstract: This small collection consists of programs, brochures, and souvenir programs for theatrical, concert, and movie performances held primarily in Los Angeles and New York City, 1856-1972. It include, but is not limited to, programs and performances of and by MGM, the Graumann Chinese Theatre, Pablo Casals, the Ice-Capades of 1941, the Chicago English Opera, Paul Robeson, George Gershwin, Katherine Hepburn, Madane Schumann Heink, Jenny Lind, Jacques Thibaud, Ricardo Martin, Vladimir Horowitz, Joseph Szigeti, and Enrico Caruso.

Scope and Contents

This small collection consists of programs, brochures, and souvenir programs for theatrical, concert, and movie performances held primarily in Los Angeles and New York City. The earliest program, for a performance by Miss Binfield Williams, held at the Queen's Conert Rooms in Hanover Square, dates from June 26, 1865. The latest is a program for a showing of MGM's "The Great Waltz", from December 7, 1972. Of note is a flier for a performance by Angna Enters, "America's Greatest Dance-Mime" at the Philharmonic Auditorium, circa late 1930s; programs for performances by Pablo Casals in 1923; a program for the Ice-Capades of 1941, held at the Pan-Pacific Auditorium in Los Angeles; a program for MGM's "The Broadway Melody" held at Grauman's Chinese Theatre with a prologue ofr Sid Grauman's "Broadway Nights"; a program for a performance by the Chicago English Opera on their Grand Tour during the 1916-1917 season held in Deadwood, South Dakota; and a program of music performed by Paul Robeson presented by the Los Angeles Chapter of Hadassah, held at the Philharmonic Auditorium on December 8, 1941. Other performers/performances represented include George Gershwin, Katherine Hepburn, Madane Schumann Heink, Jenny Lind, Jacques Thibaud, Ricardo Martin, Vladimir Horowitz, Joseph Szigeti, and Enrico Caruso.
