Biography/Administrative History
William Lloyd Anson (who also went by Lloyd William Anson) served in World War I with the 2nd Engineers, 2nd Division. He
was awarded on June 25th, 1919 a citation for distinguished and exceptional gallantry at Medeah Ferme. He married Englishwoman
Emily Rose Odell in London in September 1919, and they embarked back to the United States the following month, where they
settled in San Jose. Lloyd Anson was a member of the Order of Railway Conductors and Brakemen, and a conductor for Southern
Pacific Railway during the 1940s and 1950s.
Scope and Content of Collection
Papers of William Lloyd Anson and wife Emily (nee Odell), primarily comprising correspondence between the couple during 1919,
and documentation related to Anson's service in World War I as Private First Class with Company C, 2nd Engineers, 2nd Division,
United States Army. Also includes a small amount of material related to William Lloyd Anson's career with the Southern Pacific
Railroad (1917-1942).
