Seemingly there was not enough water on the cradle at high water, so they took her on stern first, as the ship when empty draws more water forward. This is due to the fact that the hull is deeper froward, also weight of anchors, chains, windlass, jibboom, donkey engine and yards on foremast. The S.N. CASTLE was on this same marine railway in 1910, an old 'State of Mainer' was in charge. The water in San Diego Bay was that pure that we set a trap for crayfish right there and caught all kinds of them. The harbor was just thick with sardines and mackerel. -Klebingat."

OLEUM was a Union Oil Co. tanker. A new tank steamship of unusual design, the light draft tanker OLEUM of the Union Oil Co., made her maiden voyage to Puget Sound from California in June, bringing 1,400,000 gallons of liquid petroleum products. Although a new vessel, portions of the dredge Thomas, formerly employed in deepening the Ambrose Channel in New York, were incorporated in her construction. The steamer was double-ended, the stern being of the same appearance as the bow. Although somewhat freakish in appearance, she was a most efficient vessel of her, class, having the capability of handling four different types of petroleum products at the same time in her 14 tanks, which had a total capacity of 1,500,000 gallons. She had a carrying capacity of 2,500,000 feet of lumber. Gordon Newell, Maritime Events of 1913, H.W. McCurdy Marine History of the Pacific Northwest., p 221-222.

W.G. IRWIN was built as a brigantine and re-rigged as a schooner from 1913-1926.
Vessel History: W.G. IRWIN was built as a brigantine in 1881 for J.D. Spreckels as a Hawaii sugar packet. She was later transferred to the Oceanic Steamship Co., which was largely owned by the Spreckels family. In 1901 she was sold out of the Island trade, to the Tacoma & Roche Harbor Lime Co. She was re-rigged as a three-masted schooner of 400 m capacity between September 1912 and July 1913. In 1917, she was sold for $28,000 to Capt. Alex Woodside for the offshore copra trade. She was taken over a year or so later by the Bank of Italy; and was laid up at San Francisco in July 1920, after arrival from Samoa. Two years later she was reported going to pieces rapidly, and was shortly thereafter sold to Famous-Players-Lasky and burned at Catalina, May 15, 1926.
