Biography/Administrative History
The Petaluma & Santa Rosa Railway Company, incorporated on June 20, 1903, had 36.15 miles of track in Sonoma County running
from Petaluma to Sebastopol and Santa Rosa, and branch lines. It became an operating subsidiary of Northwestern Pacific
Railroad on March 1, 1932 and merged into NWP effective October 31, 1985. The P&SR also operated tug and passenger boats
between Petaluma and San Francisco.
Scope and Content of Collection
Material from the Petaluma & Santa Rosa Railway includes the California Railroad Commission valuation report of June 30, 1912
as well as a 1914 supplementary report with revisions to the original valuation.
There are expense bills from 1911 (Form F 15), a Northwestern Pacific (NWP) Motive Power Department file on Petaluma & Santa
Rosa Railway (P&SR) repairs to various barges and tugs, which includes memos, requisition forms, receipts, and authorities
for expenditures pertaining to the repair, purchase, retirement and sale of barges 4 and 5, plus the replacement of the tug
"Golden Eagle" by the "Coos Bay."
Statements of siding mileage between 1949 and 1980 (Form L 3156) contain information about tracks used for spurs, sidings,
wyes and drills including their location and extent, route number, line number, SPINS number, frog number, rail weight and
section, and companies served.
Statements of joint trackage, terminal and interchange facilities (Form L 3158) for 1958 to 1968 include information about
Northwestern Pacific owned and Petaluma & Santa Rosa Railway operated facilities such as location, lengths of track, agreement
audit numbers, dates, and conditions.
