Biographical / Historical

William Henry Greenlee was born 8 January 1898 in Leon, Mason County, West Virginia, to Lavernia (1872-1950) and Charles Lewis (1872-1950) Greenlee. He entered the Army as a drug store clerk in 1917, served in 18 Infantry, Company D., 1st Division, attaining the rank of Sergeant before and honorable discharge in 1919. It is unknown where he attended pharmacy school. He eventually would own his own drug store on Washington Street in Charleston, West Virginia. He died 6 May 1954.

Scope and Contents

Manuscript lecture notes recorded by student William H. (Henry) Greenlee (1898-1954) for a course in pharmacy at Charleston, West Virginia, during January and February of 1922. Notes for 39 numbered lectures, some with dates, are composed in ink in a standard, bound ledger with lined, numbered pages. In addition to notes, there are several illustrations of apparatus for mixing or testing solutions and gases, and several charts (official name, common name, pharmacopeial defin, nat. o. or fam., habitat, med. props., ac. cons., dosage, U.S.P.P.) and medical recipes.
