Abstract: The bulk of this collection comprises photographic negatives, but also includes black and white photographic prints (some indexed by subject on note cards), as well as clippings concerning Quick and his work. An educator, staff photographer (1964), and manager of photographic services (1976) at the University of California, Riverside until 1996, Herbert Quick (1925-2006) was also an art photographer well-known for his insightful documentation of everyday life. Trained at the Los Angeles School of Design in the late 1940s, Quick worked with and befriended luminaries including Edward Weston, Dorothea Lange, and Ansel Adams. The collection primarily documents Quick's work as campus photographer at UCR, with subject matter ranging from photographs of horticultural and other specimens, to documentation of the UCR campus, and a wide range of university activities.
