This collection contains materials collected by Robert Lee Ferrell, Jr. regarding his activism against the Briggs Initiative (Proposition 6). Ferrell (1947-1989) was born in North Carolina and moved to San Francisco in 1978. He died of AIDS. The collection contains records from the Bay Area Committee Against the Briggs Initiative (BACABI), including flyers, leaflets, outreach to celebrities, rally messages and statements against Prop. 6, notes and correspondence, and a Speakers Bureau Handbook. There are also flyers, meeting minutes and membership materials from the National Caucus of Gay & Lesbian Counselors (flyers, meeting minutes, membership materials, 1978-1979), and materials from a program on "Homophobia, Anita Bryant, John Briggs and You" at the 1979 APCA Convention in Los Angeles. The collection also contains reprints of articles about LGBT people and counseling, a small amount of correspondence and materials from Ferrell’s memorial service.
